Your Name Engraved Herein
Captured Movie Scenes
While I watched the movie Your Name Engraved Herein, I produced three observational drawings from scenes in which the composition conveyed the most emotion. Throughout the process, establishing a focal point within the busy background proved to be the greatest challenge. To execute the depth effect with only a pencil, I chose to use darker linework on the figure and implement a more sketch-like, undetailed style in addition to lighter pencil marks to imitate atmospheric haze.
In this piece, the front figure stands out in the numerous rows of soldiers to suggest the character’s importance. The scene centers around the responsibility he bears in the army and the ways he differs from the rest in disposition.

In this scene, although there are three primary figures, I aimed to make it clear that the man on the left was the main character. Another obstacle I faced in drawing this piece was accurately conveying the character’s ethnic features.

For my third observational drawing, I heavily relied on blurring the background through sketching techniques to suggest depth. This scene was so visually appealing due to the balanced symmetry of the figure’s pose and the council’s table in the background.
