Sketches & Studies
This is a collection of micellaneous pencil works that I have created over the years.
Afterhours
The sketch above draws inspiration from jazz culture and club atmospheres. The classy setting and the music that shapes the mood create an overall sense of smoothness and sophistication.
Afterhours, Sept. 2023, graphite pencil, 5.5" x 8.5”
Lounge
Above is a quick drawing done in an illustrative style that incorporates elements of Japanese art, both traditional works from the Edo era and more modern influences from animation.
Lounge, Jan. 2022, graphite pencil, 11" x 8.5”
Mountainside
The cliffside sketch is an observational piece I created for my AP Studio Art summer homework. During a road trip to Idaho, my family and I drove through plains and mountains, and I captured this scenery along the way. The composition of the cliffside and clouds felt perfect to draw.
Mountainside, Aug. 2025, graphite pencil, 8.5" x 5.5”
Ballroom Dance
This line-work drawing was created in appreciation of Victorian-era dresswear and ballroom attire. My interest in period films inspired this piece, and I paid close attention to the delicate details in the fabric and accessories that defined the fashion of that time.
Ballroom Dance, Mar. 2024, graphite pencil, 7” x 10”
Hooded Figure
Hooded Figure, Nov. 2025, graphite pencil & charcoal, 11” x 14”
This sketch uses charcoal to study how fabric drapes around the body. The figure itself is subtle, yet the protrusion of the head and arms makes it clear what I am depicting.
Deep Dive
Shown is a quick linework of a girl swimming. For this piece, I challenged myself to visualize the anatomy without using a reference image. This unusual pose helped me broaden my understanding of how the body moves and is structured.
Deep Dive, May 2023, graphite pencil, 5.5" x 8.5”
Girl Figures
The six characters above were drawn as an experiment in fashion, specifically the popular styles seen in 2000s movies like Bring It On and Mean Girls. Alongside exploring clothing, I also aimed to depict women in natural, relaxed poses to capture their personality and presence.
Girl Figures, Oct. 2022, graphite pencil, 9” x 12”
Roadtrip
This drawing of nature was created during a road trip to Idaho. The endless plains of yellow grass and barren trees under the hot sun capture the essence of my long summer trips to my grandparents’ house. Nature is what truly defines summer there, whether it’s the beach, the mountains, the forest, or small towns surrounded by farmland.
Roadtrip, Dec. 2022, graphite pencil, 8.5" x 11"
